Everyone’s favorite lazy, lasagna-loving house cat Garfield is back to amaze a new generation with his wit and insane eating skills.
Our family first heard about the new Garfield movie at the St. Pete Italian Fest at the St. Pete Pier in April. My little lasagna lovers couldn’t wait to see it so we were excited to attend the Tampa advance screening!
What Happens in The Garfield Movie?
In this new take on the classic comic strip cat, we learn how Garfield, voiced by Chris Pratt, “adopted” Jon at Mamma Leoni’s and came to be the pampered pet we know and love.
But not only do we learn Garfield’s origin story the new movie, we get to follow him on an adventure outside the house!
In a strange turn of events, Garfield is forced to go on a wild outdoor adventure with his long-lost father. Voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, Vic is a scruffy street cat whom Garfield resents.
Vic and Garfield’s adventure in the outdoors together pushes Garfield out of his comfort zone physically, as well as emotionally.
I expected lots of eating and mischief in the new Garfield movie, but I didn’t expect the emotional depth. The movie has a lot of heart! It’s very much a movie about relationships and even about showing grace.
What Age is The Garfield Movie For?
The Garfield Movie is rated PG for action/peril and mild thematic elements.
My kids are 7 and 11 and the movie seemed perfect for their elementary school age group. I would recommend it for ages 6 and up.
