Let’s be real. I’m not a beauty blogger by any means. But I’ve been a work-from-home momma for almost seven years and I know how easy it is to feel isolated and depressed at home. I also know how much a little self-care can do to boost your mood.
While I love working from home because I’m an introvert and a writer who works best in quiet settings, I do love to get dressed up sometimes and go out to restaurants, concerts and performing arts shows.
I’ve noticed over the years that I feel a lot better at home when I act like I have somewhere to go. When I feel a little down, I put on a bit of makeup and a cute, casual dress instead of a t-shirt and shorts or yoga pants.
My favorite quick mom-friendly beauty routine is Flawless in Five from leading clean beauty brand Beautycounter. Read on to learn about Flawless in Five and how using Beautycounter products supports a movement to hold the entire beauty industry to higher, safer standards.
Beautycounter Flawless in Five Makeup Routine
The Beautycounter Flawless in Five includes six safer, high-performing makeup staples:
- Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation or Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer
- Touchup Skin Concealer Pen
- Color Define Brow Pencil or Brilliant Brow Gel
- Lengthening or Volumizing Mascara
- Satin Powder Blush
- Lip Gloss
My personal Flawless in Five starts with Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer (in shade No. 2). I love the sheer coverage, SPF 20 protection and the dewy, radiant finish. To complement the Dew Skin, the Touchup Concealer Pen is perfect for brightening under the eyes and covering minor blemishes.
Beautycounter’s Brilliant Brow Gel is something I never knew I always needed to tame my wild, bushy eyebrows. My eyelashes have a decent natural length so I chose the Volumizing Mascara, which adds nice dimension to my lashes without clumping.
The Satin Powder Blush and Lip Gloss complete the look by adding a little pop of color. Seven different blush shades and more than 10 lip gloss colors make it easy to customize your look. I chose Guava for my blush and Dahlia for my lip gloss.
I’ve never been a big lip gloss person because I don’t like my lips to feel sticky (and neither does my husband!). I was pleasantly surprised to find that Beautycounter’s lip gloss formula minimizes the stickiness while amplifying the shine and hydration.
A Business that Seeks to Be the Change in the Beauty Industry
I love the quality of Beautycounter’s makeup and skin care products but I love their mission even more. Beautycounter is leading a movement in the beauty industry to make safer products available to everyone.
A socially-conscious company, Beautycounter balances purpose and profits as a certified B Corporation. B Corps envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good. They meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.
I’m a passionate supporter of the B Corp movement and I feel good about using my voice and my money to support purpose-driven businesses that use profits and growth to have a positive impact on their employees, communities and the environment.
This is especially important in the personal care industry. Most of us are unaware that personal care companies in the U.S. have long been allowed to use harmful ingredients and make their own judgments about safety. The industry is not as regulated as you’d expect. The U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry in more than 80 years.
Beautycounter has committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is legally required in the U.S. Check out The Never List™ for an overview of 1,800 questionable or harmful chemicals that Beautycounter has committed to never using as ingredients in their products. It includes over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, plus additional chemicals screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern.
Not only does Beautycounter work to provide safer beauty products, they advocate for change in the beauty industry and educate consumers on how we can make safer choices for ourselves and our families. I’ve learned more about the beauty industry in the last year as a Beautycounter customer than I have in 20+ years as a beauty product user.
Recently, Beautycounter released an eye-opening documentary about child labor issues in the mining of mica, a clean beauty ingredient widely used in eyeshadow. Watch the documentary and learn more and find out how you can get involved in helping to shift the industry to responsible sourcing.
